I have seen nothing but derogatory comments about this film, but I found Shrooms to be a graceful fun dinky alarm movie. Determined, you don’t have to have eaten a Deaths Head mushroom to study prophetic visions of how the film will slay, and the fable doesn’t exactly fracture recent ground in terms of character development, but Shrooms does have a suspenseful moment or two and I happen to hold that the watch and feel of the film (which some have decried as hopelessly bland) creates the appropriate atmosphere for the setting and the events that rob region there. It’s Ireland, people, not the colorful and sunny beaches of Rio de Janeiro.

Forget about the whole potato business. Apparently, Ireland is all about psychedelic mushrooms. In the film, five dull Americans have fair spent tons of money to wing across the Atlantic in order to camp out deep in the woods and indulge in the hallucinogenic visions wrought by the local “magic mushrooms.” Well, one of them, Tara (Lindsey Haun, who happens to acquire a strong resemblance to Kirsten Dunst) came in hopes of hooking up with host Jake (Jack Huston) ; her four annoying friends (two stuck-up girls and their annoying boyfriends, one of whom looks like the skinny guy from Jay and Still Bob while the other one is listless frat boy material) tagged along for the psychedelic adventure.

Already bummed over the fact that Jake isn’t paying her mighty attention, Tara decides to eat one of the mushrooms she finds – unfortunately, it’s a Deaths Head mushroom. Supposedly, anyone who eats one of these particular shrooms – assuming he/she actually survives – gains several sad attributes, such as the ability to predict the future. Being the main character in the film, Tara naturally survives, waking up in time to hear Jake direct the others about the sad monk who fearful and murdered a number of the kids under his charge, including a shrouded boy who poisoned him, and is said to collected bolt those very woods looking to ruin those who would enter his domain. As you can probably guess, Tara soon begins having unsightly premonitions of her friends’ violent deaths – fair before those deaths actually happen. Soon all of the characters are scrambling around the woods in search of befriend and answers as they are picked off one by one. Tara begins seeing the murky monk seemingly stalking her, the boy in the mask pops up a time or two, and a family of inbred hillbillies stops by to compose things even more spellbinding.

There are some certain parallels between Shrooms and another new film which shall remain nameless; I only mention this because I raked that other movie over the coals for the absurdity of its ending and, in retrospect, overall advance to the entire yarn. A case can certainly be made that Shrooms borrows heavily from this other film – yet here, the epic actually works reasonably well (aside from its predictability and lack of originality) . With the characters all befuddling their minds with psychedelic mushroom delights, one can never be positive if what you are seeing is trusty or a hallucination. With so considerable wriggle room to work with, Shrooms actually turns out to be a stunning effective runt fright movie, in my view. Did I mention there’s a talking cow?

This was an fascinating miniature morsel of gore and ickiness. At times whacky and crazy, over the top and sometimes fabulous and bit unusual, it wasn’t the best dismay movie I’ve seen in a while but I enjoyed it for what it had to offer. Basically a group of friends takes a perambulate to Ireland where they are meeting up with some guy named Jake that has bespelled Tara, our heroine. Their whole purpose of going there is to select magic mushrooms and have an experience while camping out in the middle of sunless, scary woods. Everything is going all lawful until they choose by the camp fire and the guide spills the beans about an abandoned orphanage where mysterious hooded monks tortured abominable kids and how the grounds are level-headed apprehensive. Not exactly a status one wants to be with no cell phones, encourage out of the plot, crazies living in the woods in hand made shacks and while intoxicated on fungus of all things.

The fun piece of the movie was watching the mood decline and the chill rob over. The haunting and the scary stores suddenly don’t seem so made up anymore and when intoxicated from taking the tainted mushroom, Tara starts to spy the future; her visions are nothing short of dim and horrific. At the extinguish it’s a lot of running around, screaming, trying to elope the wrath of the mysterious shaded shape that is eager on having them meet the maker and trying to figure out what is dependable and what is simply the worst spin of their whole lives. Are people dying or is it all in their imagination, you won’t know until the kill! There is gore and blood and curious disturbing things, but I won’t spoil them, it was more fun watching it all unravel on my bear.

I liked the ending; it came to a attractive conclusion although it did remind me of a determined French film I saw last year, overall not awful and mildly titillating for a rainy afternoon. I had my likes and dislikes about it but I’m pleased I got to contemplate it.

Thanks again to MGM and Fox for resurrecting this DVD line. Here we have a couple of extremely coarse budget American International Pictures films (aid when they were quiet known as American Releasing Corporation – in fact, I believe these were the first two sci-fi/horror films keep out by the legendary studio) that go perfectly together. Is either film enormous, even reliable? Not by a long shot in venerable terms, but these should be judged on a different standard than your average A movie. The point is, they’re both a lot of fun in that design only drive-in movies from the era could be, and these two are an inspired pairing, rightly aimed directly at those of us who either saw the movies at drive-ins encourage in the 50s, who (more likely) saw them Saturday creature features matinees on TV, or who have recently discovered the wonders of cheap 1950s fright and science fiction and are rabid for the opportunity to finally inspect them. Fox and MGM, vast work and please hold these Midnight Movies coming until you’ve exhausted your libraries. Two that you might judge (both available elsewhere on DVD, but they need the quality treatment) : Dementia 13 and The Scare.

Superb prints of two ‘classic’ 50s ‘B’ features. Both have pleasant B/W photography and haunting scores. The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues – I treasure Kent Taylor’s character’s name ‘Ted Baxter’ (as soon as he introduces himself, you contemplate of Ted Knight from The Mary Tyler Moore Explain!) .

I had seen some teasers of this concert on PBS and notion it looked radiant tight, so I was hopeful it would be better than the pretty-good concert Olivia save out in itsy-bitsy release from 2002. MY how she has grown in confidence since then! She was really at ease with ALL of her musical styles here, and with the audience, and with her band.

For those who have seen her live in this century (haha, but quite seriously), you know she has stuck with a particular musicians in her band line-up at guitar & backing vocals & a multi-instrumentalist. Well, they have all improved together over the years, and she splits her vocal duets with all of them plus a video with peter allen (RIP) that is quite dramatic instead of what you’d deem (cheesy) — it came off like a graceful surreal movie. Step relieve Babs Streisand, theres a kindly primitive female vocalist with wider musical range of selection and a purer heart! Olivia is unprejudiced in her finest beget!

Not only do the duets remind you what a skilled duets singer she is — she has an entirely recent ability to blend her protest with others, always giving them the position to excel while quietly creating the whole landscape on which the feeling of the song sits! But its certain she gets on with the band so well, and they ALL clearly LIKE each other and “Derive it” about Olivia, and support encourage her being the best she can be. You also net to feel the suited gratitude not only for a fellow Aussie music record, Peter Allen — who was married for 7 years to Liza Minnelli before coming out delighted in 1974, the year he wrote one of Olivia’s definitive songs “I Honestly Care For You” — Their “Tenderfield Saddler” duet here was a huge payback, and added objective another transcendent dimension to this wonderful concert.

This is an provocative collection that really shows Fuller on a hobble during his career. The early films really don’t resemble the work of Fuller as we know it from about 1950 forward, but the first two films were made when Fuller had less creative control over his work, so you have to be pleased what he does with material he is handed in his early years. There is an outstanding documentary – “The Men Who Made the Movies – Sam Fuller” – that really shows what made the director tick in his contain words, but I don’t maintain that Sony has the rights to that one so I doubt it will be available here. I’m not here to discuss film thunder, which is probably noble. I am here to discuss the difficult packaging which plagues this region. Not only are the DVDs stacked on top of each other in twos, but the lower discs have edges that are positioned BELOW the spindles!

I had major wretchedness sliding the four lower DVDs out without breaking them (I did crack the outer packaging twice) . I should have pushed down on the lower release button BEFORE attempting to fling the discs from underneath the spindles. I’m neither adroit nor mechanically minded, so the packaging was a challenge to me. Others will probably have less wretchedness than I experienced, as long as they are careful.

I tranquil despise this packaging, and would rather have slim cases in a wraparound. That would avoid the potential for breakage that I described above.

The film transfers survey quite excellent for the most portion.

I rented this for my daughter, not expecting remarkable, but I was very impressed. The diminutive troll Stanley is adorable and very lovable-isn’t that what we want to watch in a children’s movie? He is an safe role model for kindness and distinct thinking-something lacking in some adults, I might add. The children were very believable, and I found myself getting very absorbed in the sage, and rooting for the “pleasant” characters.

The nasty trolls were perfectly substandard, and the heros earn clever ways to deal with them while having a extraordinary adventure. I consider there are colossal messages here.1.) I contemplate it’s advantageous to say that Hairspray is a novel motion portray. The film, while providing nonstop fun and laughs throughout, also manages to not only confront but to roll correct over prejudice in several of its snide guises. I was a teenager when this film came out, and sadly, it was the death of Divine (unbiased before the movie was released) that made me aware of this film. I don’t know if that publicity helped or pain price sales – Divine, for those who have never heard of him, was notorious for playing female roles, and Hairspray had begun to rejuvenate his whole career. As for the film, it’s extremely campy in the best of ways, overflowing with vast singing and dancing from the early 1960s, and it is the type of film that makes you feel noble after you observe it.

Ricki Lake plays Tracy Turnblad, a vast, fearless, and lovely teenager who dreams of dancing on the exceedingly current Corny Collins dance exhibit. Her mother, played by Divine, isn’t too crazy about original music and dancing – until Tracy auditions and gets a situation on the demonstrate. Strutting her stuff in front of the cameras, she snappy becomes Baltimore’s newest sensation. This does not sit well with Amber von Tussle (Colleen Fitzpatrick), as Tracy steals her man and then threatens to regain the coveted title of Miss Auto Explain 1963. Tracy is overweight, but she likes herself unprejudiced as she is and easily dismisses the plump jokes thrown her contrivance early on. The tall mutter in this film, though, is segregation. Tracy and her best friend Penny Pingleton (Joann Havrilla) soon become friends with some of the dim kids in town and inaugurate working toward integrating the Corny Collins explain. Collins is all for the view himself, as currently the Negro explain runs only once each month under the controls of sassy Motormouth Mabel (Ruth Brown) . The position manager will not hear of integration, though, and Penny’s mother is aghast to bag out that her daughter is in like with an African-American. This is 1962, of course. The whole segregation dispute becomes the basic foundation of the movie as it dances its device to the raze, making Hairspray a wonderfully spicy film with a serious message tedious it.

The film is blessed with many engaging cast members. Divine plays not only Mrs. Turnblad but also the site manager, Jerry Stiller plays Mr. Turnblad, Sonny Bono and Debbie Harry (and Debbie Harry’s increasingly inspiring hair) arrive together to play Amber von Tussle’s parents, and Ric Ocasek and Pia Zadora demonstrate up as Beatniks in a uncommon tiny cameo appearance. Of course, Ricki Lake exquisite worthy steals the demonstrate as the enormous girl with mammoth dreams, although I found Joann Havrilla’s performance as Penny Pingleton quite arresting in a irregular sort of scheme.

Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) is an overweight teenage girl who can shake off jokes about her weight with a type of self-confidence that is truly grand. Tracy and her friend Penny Pingleton (Joann Havrilla) appreciate watching and dancing along to The Corny Collins TV Explain in Tracy’s living room at home; and one day Tracy sets her mind to trying out for the explain with some assist from her friend Penny. Overall, the acting exceeds my expectations for a John Waters flick; and the choreography shines in vast scenes where gigantic crowds must travel about. I won’t give away the plot; but if you want to view fine choreography peer not at fair the complicated dance scenes they had to manage but also the bustle riot scene come the Tilted Acres segregated amusement park.

The cinematography works well; and each character is developed nicely as the movie goes along. The casting is flawless, too.

Hairspray earns its hold quite well; it will have your undivided attention as you howl with laughter all the draw through! The DVD also features commentary by John Waters and Ricki Lake.

When it comes down to it, Hairspray manages to do be comical, maintain your attention and gawk rather serious issues concerning racial tensions, segregation, integration and the first good worship each teen inevitably experiences–all at the same time and all in the same movie. That’s quite a feat; and I recommend this film for fans of John Waters movies but also for people who delight in comedies that involve social commentary. Stout!

In the future, personal computers have developed into humanoid ‘Persocons’. A prep school student named Hideki Motosuwa desperately wants to engage a Persocon but can’t afford to. One fateful day he finds a Persocon in a garage pile and so he takes her home. When he turns on the Persocon, she can only say ‘Chi’ and that’s what he names her. Over time it becomes apparent that Chi is more than an average Persocon. It seems that Chi might be a “Chobit”, a type of advanced Persocon rumoured to have independent notion and feeling. How far will Hideki go to protect her and what will their relationship become.

The Chobits Collection contains all 7 DVD volumes and the Character Song Collection CD – a total of 8 discs in 4 double thinpak cases. The artbox has a plastic slipcase with the description and specs on it, so the artbox itself is fine remarkable free of any text.

This is an advantageous anime, and a very nice seize on the more archaic “boy meets girl plots”. Some have said in the past that this series is yet another one about a lonely guy often a nerdy type, who is lucky enough to meet a blooming, and (not always) submissive female. In most anime, this female robot or android honest happens to be a robot or android of some sort either created by or stumbled upon by the main character. However, that is far too simple a design to account for it and I consider unjustly labels “Chi”, the Persocom (android) within this fable, and the other female androids.

Looking only at “Chi” as the fable moves on it is sure she is not submissive but filled with childlike innocence. This is what helps accomplish the record so different from others with female androids. Chi is truly a child learning about the world around her and the very indispensable rule it will seem she will play seemingly as one of the legendary “Chobits”, the Peroscoms that memoir holds are have actual emotions and need no former programming to function.

As she learns about this world around her, and at times has her innocence exploited, something that can easily be improper for her being submissive, Hideki, the main male character and one that finds Chi, finds himself both as her teacher and her caretaker. As they both grown and learn together and open to contemplate the world through each other’s eyes they naturally grow closer together in a diagram that works as being very easy to find and occupy could happen.

The climax itself and what happens when all the pieces are in region, the pieces of the puzzles that perform through mysterious photos, and searches to peek if Chi really is a “Chobits” is something not to be missed and is one of the most sparkling and emotionally filled endings I have ever seen to an anime.

With a epic that is so well written that it is very easy to grow to adore the characters and feel excitement about the characters this ending was perhaps even more emotional. Overall this is not an anime you should miss and is one that should be on everyone’s “Must Stare” lists no matter your typical celebrated genre.

I did not examine the present while on TV but I watch/record reruns on USA network at 0800, Mon-Fri…I first saw the exhibit on USA 2 yrs ago and was caught hook, line and sinker ever since…You can also eye reruns on the Sleuth channel early an mid mornings.

Great exhibit, I have Seasons 1-7 and will pickup Season 8 when it becomes available.

Buy this DVD even if you aren’t a fan of Green Day, blink, Jimmy Eats World or Kut-U-Up (although I guarantee that you will be a Green Day fan AFTER viewing it) because it is the funniest thing you will ever view. This movie could have been a mess, but Oscar-worthy editing and a mammoth sound track saved the day. It’s actually a superb film, deserving of recognition. We discover it at least once a week and sometimes twice a day.

-Billie swinging from the chandelier of a two-story hotel room until it rips out of the ceiling and later limping down the hotel hallway dragging the chandelier like some demented party favor until he runs into Mike, who collapses in laughter,

-Billie branding a somewhat willing Chris Cote from Kut-U-Up (“How could I say no to the King of Punk? “) on the bum with a pool bridge (heated with cigarette lighters) after convincingly telling him, “Objective do a tiny Neosporin on it; it’ll be blooming, I jabber!”,

-Billie proudly showing his charmingly alarmed wife, Adrienne, the harm to Chris’ ass.

The manic joy in Billie’s eyes throughout these adventures is a thing of beauty.

My only regret is that Tre Frigid isn’t on camera more. He’s shown with his then wife, who appears to have a elegant tight rein on him, although arrive the kill he does manage to pick up off a snappy champagne toast, “Here’s to ass f*cking!”

“Riding in Vans with Boys” is money well spent.

I was introduced to this DVD almost a year ago. Since, I have watched it about once a week. Regardless of whether or not you like Blink 182’s “Pile-of-Music” or rock out Green Day, or even the stylin’s of Kut-U-up this DVD is hilarious. The fact that all this happened unscripted makes it even better. The Soundtrack rules too, including music from YOVEE and Jimmy Eats World.
